  32. I. New and Updated 4.5 Features:
  33. The following paragraphs describe new and updated features.
  34.  
  35. 1. New Installer
  36. The new installer uses Installer Vise version 5.5, a robust and flexible 
  37. installation package that can search for previously installed components and 
  38. replace them with the appropriate new component. This installer provides 
  39. more control over where and when components are installed.
  40.  
  41. 2. QuickTime Version 3 Import/Export Support
  42. Apple Computer's QuickTime technology is integrated into the product. For 
  43. this release all graphic import and export (with the exception of the PICT 
  44. and EPS formats) use QuickTime version 3.0. Be sure to install QuickTime 3.0
  45. using the QuickTime Installer on the DeltaGraph 4.5 CD or other media.

  70. The following new chart types are included in this release:

  72.     *** New Base Chart Types ***

  74.     * Volume-Open-High-Low-Close
  75.     Five columns of data per series. The first contains volumes, 
  76.     the second contains open values, the third contains high values, 
  77.     the fourth contains low values, and the fifth contains closing values.

  79.     * Intensity Scatter
  80.     Three columns of data for the first series, two columns for each 
  81.     series thereafter. The first column selected contains X coordinates 
  82.     for all series. Additional columns selected provide the Y coordinates 
  83.     and Z intensity values for each series. Both axes are value axes.

  85.     * Paired Intensity Scatter
  86.     Three columns of data per series. The first contains X coordinates, 
  87.     the second contains corresponding Y coordinates, and the third 
  88.     contains Z color intensity values. Each series contains independent 
  89.     X and Y coordinates. Both axes are value axes.

  91.     * Floating Stacked Column
  92.     First data column is the baseline and each subsequent data column 
  93.     is stacked in series. Categories are placed on the X axis; values 
  94.     on the Y axis.

  97.     First data column is the baseline and each subsequent data column 
  98.     is stacked in series. Values are placed on the X axis; categories 
  99.     on the Y axis.

  102.     *** New Library Chart Types ***

  104.     * Stacked Bar - Line Overlay
  105.     First two columns of data default to stacked bars; subsequent series 
  106.     are for lines. You can change the starting series for the line overlays 
  107.     in the Chart Overlays dialog box.

  109.     * Stacked Column - Line Overlay
  110.     First two columns of data default to a single floating column; 
  111.     subsequent single data columns are for lines. You can change the 
  112.     starting series for the line overlays in the Chart Overlays dialog box.

  114.     * Floating Stacked Bar - Line Overlay
  115.     First column of data is the baseline; subsequent single data columns 
  116.     are for stacked bars or lines. You can change the starting series for 
  117.     the line overlays in the Chart Overlays dialog box.

  119.     * Floating Stacked Column - Line Overlay
  120.     First column of data is the baseline; subsequent single data columns 
  121.     are for stacked columns or lines. You can change the starting series 
  122.     for the line overlays in the Chart Overlays dialog box.

  124.     * Volume-High-Low-Close
  125.     Five columns of data per series. The first contains volumes, the 
  126.     second contains empty values, the third contains high values, the 
  127.     fourth contains low values, and the fifth contains closing values. 
  128.     NOTE: As with the older prototype for this chart, High-Low-Close, 
  129.     this is a variation of a Volume-Open-High-Low-Close chart, in which 
  130.     the 'Open' value columns are empty.

  132.     * Bar - Line Overlay
  133.     Each row of data corresponds to a data series. Each column of data 
  134.     corresponds to one set of rows for a given category. A line chart 
  135.     is overlaid on the bar chart. You can change the starting series 
  136.     for the line overlays in the Chart Overlays dialog box.

  138.     *** New Overlaid Chart Types ***

  140.     * Floating Stacked Column - Step Overlay
  141.     This is a variation of the new Floating Stacked Column - Line Overlay
  142.     chart type.

  145. 4. Apple Computer Navigation Services Support
  146. Navigation provides an improved user interface for opening and saving files. 
  147. All information in the Navigation Services dialog boxes is persistent by 
  148. application.
  149.  
  150. Navigation Manager support includes all new Open, Save, Import, and Export 
  151. dialog boxes that contain:
  152.     * New Finder-like browse list.
  153.     * Recently used file (Open) or folder/volume (Save) bevel button 
  154.       (drops down a list, if the files are present).
  155.     * Favorite files, folder, or volumes bevel button where you can store 
  156.       your favorite files and folders.
  157.     * A shortcuts bevel button.
  158.     * A pop-up menu for filtering types.
  159. A preview button (Open) if QuickTime is available and the supported resource 
  160. is available.

  162. There are also new Save Changes, Discard Changes, and New Folder Navigation 
  163. Manager dialog boxes.

  166. 5. Enhanced AppleScript Support
  167. Sample scripts and supporting files are in the folder 
  168. ":Sample Files:AppleScripts". The sample scripts must be edited by 
  169. changing "Your Macintosh HD" to the name of the hard disk where 
  170. DeltaGraph is installed. See the comments in the scripts for details.

  172. The following is a complete listing of the current and the new AppleScript 
  173. commands supported in DeltaGraph 4.5:
  174.     A. Required Suite: Events that every AppleEvent-aware application must 
  175.           support.
  176.         * open: Open the specified object(s)
  177.         * print: Print the specified object(s)
  178.         * quit:  Quit application
  179.         * run: Sent to an application when it is double-clicked
  180.   B. DeltaGraph Server Suite: Suite for using DeltaGraph as a chart server
  181.         * Close File: Close the current file and optionally save
  182.         * Close Library: Close a Deltagraph library by name
  183.         * Data: Where to get data to be plotted from
  184.         * Get Chart List: Return a list of all charts by name.
  185.         * Load Color Scheme: Load color scheme file
  186.         * Open Library: Open a Deltagraph library file by name
  187.         * Output: Set output type and location for chart to be plotted next
  188.         * Plot chart: Names which chart is to be plotted and then does it
  189.         * Plot Options: Set various options for the next plot
  190.         * Set Axis Lengths: Set lengths of chart axis' in points
  191.         * Set Info3D: Set appearance of 3-D charts
  192.     C. DeltaGraph Immediate Suite: 
  193.         * No Default:  Clear defaults set with the Use command.
  194.         * Select Data: Choose rows and columns in a DeltaGraph data sheet.
  195.         * Use: Set a name to be used as a default for a document, data sheet,
  196.               or Excel sheet name during import.

  199. 6. Excel 97/98 Data Import
  200. In addition to importing Excel version 2.1 through 5.0 worksheet data, you can 
  201. now import data from Excel 97/98 worksheets.

  204. 7. Data View New Label Row and Column Cells
  205. The first row and column in Data View are reserved for labels. An outline 
  206. within each cell of the first row or column now provides a visual effect
  207. to indicate this.

  210. 8. Reorganized Axis Dialog Boxes
  211. The axis modification dialog boxes provide a more consistent and intuitive user 
  212. interface.

  215. 9. Improved DeltaSymbol User Interface
  216. The user interface for the DeltaSymbol selection dialog box has changed. It is 
  217. now easier to differentiate the built-in DeltaSymbol feature from that of the 
  218. DeltaSymbol font that is installed on your system at DeltaGraph installation.

  221. 10. Equation Editor Upgrade
  222. DeltaGraph 4.5 includes an upgrade to the latest edition of the  Equation Editor
  223. by Design Science (the makers of MathType).

  226. 11. PANTONE¬Æ Color System Support [ Only available in full version ]
  227. Now users can select from 3 types of PANTONE colors (Process, Coated, and 
  228. Uncoated) in the System Color Picker, accessed via the DeltaGraph Color Edit 
  229. dialog. PANTONE color selections are preserved in both DeltaGraph 4.5 document 
  230. files and DeltaGraph palette (.dpl) files.

  233. 12. Spot Color Separation Support [ Only available in full version ]
  234. Named PANTONE spot color selections are maintained in EPSF output. Now when
  235. generating postscript for printing or for EPSF export, DeltaGraph properly 
  236. maintains PANTONE spot color separations along with CMYK process color 
  237. separations. True CMYK black (0 0 0 1) is now generated in postscript to 
  238. always overprint on color separation plates, while other colors will 
  239. "knock-out" background images in other color planes. This applies to fonts, 
  240. lines, and graphic fills in generated postscript.

  243. 13. ColorSync 2.5.1 Support [ Only available in full version ]
  244. In addition to allowing users to calibrate PANTONE color selections to a desired 
  245. monitor profile, DeltaGraph now supports calibrating imported PICTS from any 
  246. embedded ICC color profiles to the color space of the current system profile. 
  247. The current system (monitor) profile can also be embedded within exported PICTs 
  248. and EPSF screen previews, and the current printer profile (default CMYK) is 
  249. embedded in the page description section of exported EPSF files. PANTONE CMYK 
  250. values are calculated by a profile to profile calibration match of your current 
  251. system RGB profile to that of the default CMYK profile. Use the ColorSync 2.5 
  252. control panel to set your default color space profiles.

  254. IMPORTANT NOTE: Although ColorSync 2.5.1 ships with MacOS 8.5 (Allegro), it 
  255. does not come as a standard extension with earlier versions of the MacOS. In 
  256. order to enable the new PANTONE/ColorSync functionality in DeltaGraph 4.5, 
  257. ColorSync version 2.5.1 (or higher) must be installed on your Macintosh. Look
  258. in "Control Panels" under the Apple menu to check the version of ColorSync
  259. installed on your machine. The ColorSync 2.5.1 setup program can be downloaded
  260. free of charge from Apple Computer at: <http://www.apple.com/colorsync>.

  263. 14. MRU Support
  264. In addition to the MRU ("Most Recently Used") functionality which comes as a 
  265. standard feature on all Navigation Services dialogs, DeltaGraph now has an
  266. MRU list on the "File" Menu, allowing easy access to your most recently saved
  267. DeltaGraph document files.

  270. 15. Other User Interface Enhancements
  271. The following enhancements are also included:
  272. * Support for selecting multiple chart element series faces with a single legend 
  273. series selection. Applies most to 3D chart types and charts with depth.
  274. * Mapping the Escape key to the Cancel button in dialog boxes
  275. * Support has been added for the Delete Key in user dialogs and in chart text 
  276. elements.
  277. * Moving the controlling check box in the Legend Options and Scatter Options 
  278. dialog boxes.

  281. II.  Known Issues and Work-Arounds:
  282.     1. Labels shift in imported PICTs when the "Import PICTs as Multiple Objects" 
  283.         import preference is turned on. 
  284.     Work-around: Either ungroup and re-orient the individual PICT elements individually 
  285.         after import, or else turn off this preference and re-import.
  286.     2. Exported graphics using QuickTime 3.0 are always set to 72 DPI. 
  287.     Work-around:  Export as PICT or EPS, which do not use QuickTime 3.0, and/or update 
  288.         your version of QuickTime once the newest update becomes available . This is a 
  289.         known anomaly occurring in QuickTime 3.0. At the time of writing this document, 
  290.         a newer release of QuickTime is in preparation and we believe the behavior is 
  291.         corrected.  Please refer to <http://www.apple.com/quicktime> to obtain the latest
  292.         version of QuickTime.
